Happy National Day to Switzerland!
According to Swissworld, the day was chosen because August 1st 1291 was the date on which three Alpine cantons swore the oath of confederation, an act which later came to be regarded as the foundation of Switzerland. The representatives of Schwyz, Unterwalden and Uri met on the Rütli field, high above Lake Lucerne, to swear a bond of brotherhood, and agree to act jointly if their freedoms were threatened by outside aggressors. For most of the Suisse, August 1st means bonfires and fireworks and barbecues in the garden or brunch on the farm.
allyshalim Allysha LimU2 is making me cryyy argh! Only you, only you, only you… (But) I still haven’t found what I’m looking for!
allyshalim Allysha LimBono is such an entertainer!
If you happened to notice, yesterday marked the last day of U2′s 360 World Tour which was held at Moncton New Brunswick, Canada on 31st July 2011. Come to think of it, it is just amazing how incredible this band is from making music to performing live to everything else. Imagine what it was like being on tour in a course of 3 years! Not only that – they sang for the nation, for the people, for our rights and pride… I was re-watching the concert which I downloaded in Blu Ray some time ago again last night. It still fascinates me and for some reason, brought tears to my eyes. The thought of Bono singing, his humor and all the messages they wanted to convey to the whole nation just burst out in flames, stars and consolation.
Here are the U2 360 Tour statistics I found:
7,100,000 Fans
10 million People watched a live stream of U2 360 at the Rose Bowl on YouTube
320,000 Fans saw 360 in Mexico City
92,270 Meals fed to working staff and guests
29,000 Tee shirts given to local stagehands
9,760 Guitar strings utilized
7,100 Miles – approximate distance travelled by space station while talking with U2
5,200 Years – collective touring experience of U2 tour personnel
400 Tons – weight of the fully loaded claw
134 Crew members
126 Truck drivers
110 Concerts
53 Gigs attended by a single fan
33 Flemish speaking crew members
30 Countries
12 Bus drivers
11 Babies born to crew
7 Astronauts attended
4 Appreciative Irishmen
2 Fairytale crew weddings
1 Singer in surgery
1 World leader released from house arrest during tour
Now that, is that truly something you couldn’t believe? It proves again that nothing is impossible. And in the end, justice and truth always prevailed. From the moment in which the fans took out the masks of Aung San Suu Kyi to the worlds displayed on the huge screen around the Rose Bowl: Tonight We Sing for Her will stay vividly in my mind forever. Although I do not stand a chance to attend the live concert yet but I enjoyed every moment of it watching on the screen at home. This does not apply only solely this concert but as well as all the other U2 concerts over the span of time. How lucky it was for uncle Mark and aunt Clara to be able to watch the live concert as they both reside in New Zealand.
Regardless, deep down my heart I thanked my dad for this. I know it is because of him that U2 existed in me all these while.
